Amy Michelson Wedding Gown Designer, Breast Cancer Survivor and Founder of "Love Is The Cure"!

Fashion designer Amy Michelson dragged herself to the New York City bridal market in October 2000, between breast cancer surgery and radiation treatment to debut a brand-new wedding gown collection. Michelson's evening wear has graced the likes of celebrities Halle Barry, Kim Basinger, Michelle Pfeiffer and others. Concerned about the status of her year old bridal business, she told no one in the industry she was sick. Four years later, a healthy and inspired Michelson returned to the Big Apple in October 2004 to showcase her Spring 2005 collection and accept her third 'Wedding Gown Designer of the Year Award'.

"I feel lucky to have had breast cancer," Michelson said. "That seemingly negative experience has turned into the great passion of my life - creating "Love Is The Cure" - a powerful and positive vehicle for helping women and their families going through breast cancer." As a grant-making foundation, "Love Is The Cure" will partner with existing local community organizations to provide services like home meal delivery, transportation to and from medical care, childcare assistance; emotional and in-home volunteer support.

If ever Michelson doubted the purpose of "Love Is The Cure", a recent experience reminded her of the extraordinary gift "Love Is The Cure" is providing for women going through breast cancer. In October 2004, Amy had her fourth-year mammogram, and once again she received the news that made her heart stop. “We see a growth in one of your films, and we need to do a biopsy.” Michelson was relieved to report her lump was benign. But that scare made her realize more than ever how important the work is that she and the many supporters of "Love Is The Cure" are doing to lift up the hopes of women facing life with breast cancer. Amy admits her story could have had a different ending. As she will say, “I am lucky that I am healthy and can continue my life’s work.”
